Básicamente, un motor que te permite alcanzar velocidades tan altas necesita mucho más aire, un elemento clave para que funcione la combustión que es la que finalmente produce la potencia. Los motores modernos de F1 alcanzan aproximadamente las 19,000 rpm, mientras que un motor de serie normal apenas sobrepasa las 6,000 rpm.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="margin-top: 1em; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 0px; "&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"&gt;&lt;b&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"  style="color:#FFFFFF;"&gt;La razón por la cual éstos últimos alcanzan unas velocidades muy inferiores es simple: las cargas que soportan los elementos en movimiento son aproximadamente proporcionales al cuadrado de su velocidad. Incrementar el régimen de vueltas de un motor de 6,000 rpm a 19,000 rpm implica que las cargas que deberá soportar aumentan un factor de diez – lo que podría llegar a ser tolerable para un motor de competición preparado para una vida de 750 km, pero no para un motor de serie del que se espera que llegue hasta los 300,000 km.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="margin-top: 1em; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 0px; "&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"&gt;&lt;b&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"  style="color:#FFFFFF;"&gt;Sin embargo, cuando se habla de la potencia del motor, normalmente se manejan unas cifras que carecen de significado. En primer lugar, la potencia que produce un motor no es constante y varía según la temperatura ambiente, la presión atmosférica y la humedad. En un día caluroso, no sólo el motor pierde potencia, sino que además trabaja a un régimen más elevado de vueltas. Eso provoca que la evaluación de un motor en el banco de pruebas sea complicada, ya que incluso en una cámara en la que las condiciones se controlan electrónicamente, las condiciones no siempre son las mismas. Así pues, es necesario corregir la potencia que se mide de un motor en función de una serie de normas muy precisas. En el caso de los motores de serie, estos valores están muy bien definidos, aunque varían según los continentes. Sin embargo, en la F1 cada fabricante de motores utiliza sus propios valores, así que no tiene ningún sentido comparar la potencia de un motor con otro.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="margin-top: 1em; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 0px; "&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"&gt;&lt;b&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"  style="color:#FFFFFF;"&gt;De hecho, el número de caballos de potencia máximo que puede alcanzar un motor es algo muy fácil de entender y que puede expresarse con una sola cifra, pero el rendimiento real del motor depende de otros muchos factores y uno de los más importantes es la curva de potencia. Por ejemplo, si un motor desarrolla 900 cv de potencia a 19,000 rpm, pero sólo alcanza los 800 cv a 18,000 rpm, entonces habría problemas en el pilotaje. El resultado sobre la pista sería claramente inferior al de un motor que alcanzase los 875 cv a 19,000 rpm, pero que ofreciera 850 cv a 18,000 rpm. De hecho, el par motor es un elemento tan importante como el de la potencia, ya que finalmente es el que te da la aceleración. Un buen motor de competición, como también un motor de serie, debe contar con una aceleración progresiva y suave.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="margin-top: 1em; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 0px; "&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"&gt;&lt;b&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"  style="color:#FFFFFF;"&gt;Las características físicas de un motor de F1 también desempeñan un papel importante. Como cualquier otro de los componentes que forman un coche de competición, el motor tiene que ser tan ligero como sea posible, y por eso utilizamos una serie de materiales muy avanzados que a la vez que son ligeros son capaces también de soportar cargas muy importantes. Además, cada uno de los componentes es diseñado para un periodo de vida limitado, mucho más corto que el de los componentes de un motor de serie. Y eso, junto con un método de uso bien definido, permite a los diseñadores utilizar unos márgenes de seguridad mucho más reducidos. Cuando un diseñador de motores concibe un motor de competición, no sólo sabe exactamente para qué se utilizará, sino también que la calidad de su mantenimiento será excepcional – algo que cuando se diseña un motor de serie no puede garantizarse.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="margin-top: 1em; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 0px; "&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"&gt;&lt;b&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"  style="color:#FFFFFF;"&gt;Por último y continuando con el tema del peso, quizás resulte sorprendente para muchos saber que un buen consumo de combustible es tan importante para un motor de competición como para uno de serie. En el caso de un coche de carretera, el consumo tiene un efecto directo en los costes del usuario, así que es uno elementos clave a la hora de la compra. En el caso de la competición, se intenta que la carga de combustible sea la menor posible, ya que cada litro de gasolina equivale aproximadamente a 0.75 kg de peso, un enemigo a la hora de obtener el mejor rendimiento del coche.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="margin-top: 1em; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 0px; "&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"&gt;&lt;b&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"  style="color:#FFFFFF;"&gt;Evidentemente, el consumo de un coche de F1 varía en función de las condiciones: rodando sobre mojado se consume menos que haciéndolo sobre seco. Pero también depende de otros factores como la cantidad de ala posterior que se utilice (más alerón implica un mayor rozamiento y por tanto un mayor consumo) o la adherencia de los neumáticos. Mientras que un monoplaza de F1 consume mucho más combustible que un coche de serie por cada 100 km (65l/100km por los 8l/100 km en un coche de carretera), estos valores no tienen en cuenta la diferencia enorme que se da en la potencia que ofrece cada uno de ellos. Pero Rossi realizó sus dos vueltas de forma magistral: en la primera se quedó a sólo 63 milésimas del mallorquín, y en la segunda lo superó por 112 milésimas.
